Kerixeta wine labels

Title: Kerixeta Kiribil | Client: Mendraka Txakolina | Date: 2015

This project fuses brand strategy and art, drawing upon photography, poetry, video, music and design.

In 2014, we re-designed the brand identity for the Mendraka Txakolina, and we were recently asked by the client to design a special, unique label for an exclusive range of red Pinot Noir Txakoli that the winery has launched under the Basque name of “Kerixeta”. Instead of focussing the creative direction on theoretical strategic branding, we decided to base it around an art series that di-da art director Gotzon Garaizabal and local artist Peru Magdalena, developed under their moniker “2d1“.

Their art project “Kiribil” centres on when the vine is in “hibernation mode” just before pruning begins. During this phase, tiny shoots called tendrils begin to spiral out, in search of the sunshine with which to feed the vine. The journey made by these little shoots is fascinating, and it has formed the basis of this art project, now celebrated in six original wine labels. As an additional tribute to the Kerixeta winery, we hand-painted three little cherries on each one. (Kerixeta in Basque means Cherry – admittedly, a little bit confusing for a winery, but that’s how it has always been in this case).
